apeAPP selected as Appy Awards finalist

Our newly launched app developed for the Great Apes Survival Partnership [GRASP] has just been selected as a finalist at the 2014 Appy Awards in the Reference category. The winners will be announced at an event in New York on Wednesday May 21 as part of Internet Week.

ApeApp is up against Ancestry.com and Merlin Bird ID from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for Cornell University. The latter we previously collaborated with on our Build a Bird App.

Thanks to everyone at I-SITE and GRASP for their passion about this project. We’ll keep the fingers crossed we beat out the very stiff competition, but of course are already very proud to have been selected as a finalist.

I-SITE Launches New Website

We’ve been busy here in the toy factory designing and developing a new I-SITE website. Built on WordPress the website is a showcase for our latest work and is fully responsive for smartphones, tablet and desktop computers.

The website features a wide array of projects ranging from our Web and mobile work for Lower Manhattan through to our playful, award-winning iPhone App for NBCUniversal’s pre-school network Sprout.

There is also a strong focus on our social cause and conservation work most notably ApeAPP, our new iPhone and Android app developed in partnership with the Great Apes Survival Partnership [GRASP], Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and African Wildlife Foundation among others.

I-SITE and Sprout Team Up for Chica’s Olympic Family Fun

I-SITE recently teamed up with NBC Universal’s preschool channel Sprout to create a series of Chica Family Fun microsites and promotions to build excitement for the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Each week running up to the Olympics the Sprout website featured a new Olympic theme hosted by Sprout favorite Chica. Themes included Olympic history, international cultures, and how to be a good sport.

I-SITE designed fun theme-based web pages, graphics, activity and game printables and various banners that ran throughout the Sprout website in the weeks running up to the opening ceremony.

I-SITE Previews ApeAPP at the Great Apes Summit in Jackson Hole

I-SITE CEO Ian Cross recently gave his opposable thumbs a work out at the Great Apes Summit in Jackson Hole, Wyoming previewing the upcoming mobile application ApeAPP. The Summit sponsored by I-SITE partner GRASP [The Great Apes Survival Partnership] and the Arcus Foundation brought together the world’s leading primatologists for three immersive days in late September.

Great Apes, our closest cousins, are threatened by extinction, mainly due to habitat destruction, poaching and disease. Ian joined GRASP President Doug Cress on stage to preview the iPhone and Android application that I-SITE is developing with GRASP and their partners the African Wildlife Foundation, The Orangutan Conservancy, The Goualougo Triangle Ape Project and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The demo featured profiles of bonobos, gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans along with current projects being run by partners in the field.

The reception to the preview was extremely positive and other conservation organizations approached Doug and Ian after the session to express interest in being part of ApeAPP after it launches. Currently I-SITE and GRASP are completing the App and expect to have it in Google Play by the end of October and in the App Store soon thereafter.
