I-SITE presents at Great Apes Meeting in Paris

I-SITE CEO, Ian Cross recently traveled to UNESCO headquarters in Paris to present at the second ever meeting of the Great Apes Survival Partnership [GRASP] Council. Founded in 2005, the The GRASP Council is comprised of over 80 nations, conservation organizations, United Nations agencies, research institutions and private supporters committed to the long-term survival of great apes in Africa and Asia. Wild populations of chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and bonobos are in sharp decline and their habitat is under severe threat.

Ian presented on an upcoming project to develop a platform for GRASP partners to share their field projects with the public through smartphones. Up to now sharing timely stories from the great ape habitats in Africa and Asia has been difficult because of limited data coverage, low bandwidth and poor connectivity. In fact the award-winning iGorilla app I-SITE developed for Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of few that features up-to-date videos, photos and blog posts from a team in the field.

ApeAPP will promote multiple projects from many organizations and will feature video summaries and the ability for the public to make donations to conservation projects they are passionate about. Initial partners on the project include Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, African Wildlife Foundation, Kutai Orangutan Project and the Goualougo Triangle Ape Project.

The I-SITE team is planning to have v1.0 in the App Store in the Spring so stay tuned. In the meantime find out more about GRASP and the great work they and their partners are doing for our closest cousins the great apes.

I-SITE Launches Live Camden Website

We love cities, we love revitalization and we love visionaries! Having recently created a new web and mobile presence for Lower Manhattan, we’re currently working on another economic development project closer to home – more precisely across the river in Camden NJ . The city that is home to Campbell’s Soup, and once upon a time the pioneers of recorded sound RCA Victor, has appeared on all the wrong lists in recent years while its neighbor Philadelphia has experienced a rebirth.

In the Spring we partnered with the newly formed Coopers Ferry Partnership on a website to provide information about buying a home and living in Camden. The LiveCamden project was born out of a new Employee Assisted Housing Program being offered by some of the city’s largest employers including Virtua and Cooper University Hospital.

We designed the site to be clean, informative and show off the new LiveCamden brand. There are features on key neighborhoods, history and transportation to attract potential residents and support the live where you work message. The site is fully integrated with Cooper’s Ferry Twitter and Flickr accounts and was developed  on the open source CMS Drupal to make it easy for their team to update the content. Launched in October, I-SITE will continue to support the Cooper’s Ferry Partnership in their mission to attract residents to live and work, and businesses to set up shop in Camden.

I-SITE switched on at Bartram’s Garden

We’ll be joining 400+ for the launch of the new electronic music label and online journal Data Garden at Bartram’s Garden Sunday October 16th. Part of the launch is a the website developed by the I-SITE team along with Data Garden co-founders Joe Patitucci and Alex Tyson.

Ian partnered with Joe and Alex early in 2011 when he heard about their plan to put out their releases on seed paper with digital downloads. Apparently he was staring at his monstrous pile of CDs at the time. – Unexpected file size: If the file best software to recover all deleted files size of the XML file is significantly different from what you expect, it could be a sign of corruption. Of course his love of early Krautrock, Gary Numan, those wacked out BBC recordings from the 60s [remember the Dr Who theme] and his collection of analog synths [see TEDx Philly feature from 2010] played a part.

Switched-On Garden starts at 3PM and will run through 9PM. The event is also part of the fab DesignPhiladelphia.

I-SITE launches Downtown NYC App

Since launching a new Lower Manhattan website in the spring we’ve been itching to make use of their great events and mapping data on the mobile platform. The result is the new Downtown NYC iPhone app released in the App Store on August 25th.

We made it a goal to keep the app easy-to-use with a clean interface so the user can find something that interests them in seconds. Events are divided into 13+ categories with new categories and events easily added to the app by the Downtown Alliance staff through the same interface as they use to manage the website content.

There is always a featured event on the home screen and with the tenth anniversary of 9/11 approaching the Alliance has created a special category with 25 events. The series starts with an exhibit at the Trinity Museum that opens on September 5th. The Alliance team also used the app to post real-time information for residents during Hurricane Irene.

Other Features include event descriptions with images, viewing of all events on a fully integrated Google map, Twitter and Facebook integration and ability to add events to your calendar through iCal. The app also has a Where to Go section that links out to the Downtown NY website listings for Dining, Entertainment, Hotels and many others categories.

Since release the app has garnered very favorable reviews and currently has a 5-Star rating. We’ll be working with the Alliance on future releases and continue to focus on providing valuable content through a clean, easy-to-use interface.
